Traffic Violation Fees

  Please sign your citation and mark the appropriate box (guilty or nolo contendre).
  Place your signed citation along with payment (NO CASH) in an envelope.

PAY BY CASHIER'S CHECK OR MONEY ORDER
You may pay by cash in person (DO NOT MAIL CASH)
CREDIT CARDS OR PERSONAL CHECKS are not accepted!
NO PARTIAL PAYMENTS
 
WHEN MAILING A COPY:
You will need to mark the appropriate box (guilty or nolo contendre), sign and date your copy of the citation.  If you have lost your copy, please click on the link to the left for the INFRACTION PLEA AGREEMENT. 
*If our office does not receive a signed and dated plea to your charge, we cannot process your payment.

INFRACTION VIOLATIONS:                             $115.00+
 *Excluding SPEEDING IN WORKSITE, maximum $440.00+

SPEEDING VIOLATIONS:
1 TO 10 mph over posted speed limit               $115.00+
11 to 25 mph over posted speed limit              $145.00+
26 mph or more over posted speed limit          $185.00+
  
CDL SEATBELT VIOLATIONS:                         $115.00+
 
ADULT SEAT BELT VIOLATIONS:                   $ 25.00

+A $25.00 Late Fee may be applied if payment is not received by the court date listed on your citation

VIOLATIONS THAT REQUIRE A COURT APPEARANCE:
  • Driving While Suspended
  • No CDL Endorsement
  • Speed Contest
  • Failure To Maintain Financial Responsibility
  • Operating Without Proof Of Financial Responsibility
  • Child Restraint
  • Operator Never Licensed
  • ALL MISDEMEANOR CHARGES
  
  • No License In Possession/Expired Operator's License
  • Expired License Plate/False-Fictitious Registration
  • No Headlight/Tail Light/Brake Light
  • No/Inadequate Muffler
If you receive a citation for any of the violations listed above, you may correct the violation and bring proof to the City Clerk's Office prior to your court date.  The correction will be noted and presented to the Deputy Prosecutor for City Court.  If accepted, your citation will be dismissed.

INFRACTION DEFERRAL PROGRAM:
The Vigo County Prosecutor's Office offers an Infraction Deferral Program to eligible individuals. 

You will be mailed an agreement form to the address listed on your citation in approximately three (3) weeks. 

The following are not eligible for this program:
 *CDL endorsement holders    
 *Anyone with a serious conviction on their driving record that include:
                        DUI, DWI, OWI, Passing A School Bus Loading/Unloading, Reckless Driving, 
                        Leaving The Scene Of An Accident (Partial List Of Convictions)
 *Anyone who has participated in this program within the last three (3) years
 *Receiving two (2) citations or more at the same traffic stop
 
 
NOTE: Please do not send request(s) for defendant information via electronic mail as the City Clerk's Office will not send personal information in that manner.  If you have a question concerning a traffic citation, misdemeanor charge or unpaid fees, please call our office at 812-232-3375 Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm (excluding holidays).
