William S. Rea donated the land to the city of Terre Haute in 1922. The golf course was originally nine holes. It was expanded to eighteen holes in the late 1920's. Gerandine Rea, the widow of William S. Rea, built the clubhouse in his memory. The clubhouse was dedicated in 1925 and has been a city landmark ever since.
